Be Blessed

What is a blessing?
What does it mean to be "blessed" by someone?

A blessing from another may be a wish of good will; intending gifts and good health. Receiving a blessing is considered a boon; extra cash, free food, a helping hand. Are you able to receive blessings? Sometimes we are in a place where we simply can not see the blessings in our lives, we are in the middle of some (unbeknownst to us) lesson, and maybe one we thought we learned before.

Being human isn't easy, most often if you wait long enough, the lesson is the blessing.

My teachers said don't hesitate to bless yourself, you don't need anyone else to bless you. Receiving a blessing from another is a luxury for me, I'll take it, whatever denomination.

The way I learned we bless ourselves with white sage smoke or burning bright cedar, sometimes sweet grass and maybe a feather from a bird who helps promote a good life - a turkey feather is a safe bet. Another practice that comes from Peru is with florida water, we bring this water to our palms and clap and connect to our bodies to cleanse, reset and purify ourselves. I have also experienced a Oneness Blessing or Deeksha.

The blessings of travel in my life have been enormous, diverse and beautiful. Learning of pujas in India and visiting ancient temples of the Maya, I consider being allowed to visit sacred spaces and ceremonies blessings as well.

Can you see your blessings clearly now? Sometimes, when we are lost in the maya, the illusion of living we forget, we forget ourselves and how blessed (blissed) we truly are. Starting with gratitude is always a proper doorway, counting our blessings. If we work our way into a clear state of mind enough to appreciate our blessings, can we receive blessings in the form of help? Do we feel worthy of receiving a blessing, or many blessings?

Yoga Inversions: When the world feels Upside Down

We started Yoga last night with an inversion. Seemed fitting given the snow globe state of things. Turn that frown upside down even if it's still a frown. Grateful to those who came to class and had the courage to move and breath, it was not an easy thing to do yesterday. And grateful to those who decided to go home and crawl under the covers. It's all good.

God's plan is not explained at the time. Keep praying for your policy makers and politicians and those on the front lines in conflict overseas and here in this country. When we do Shadow work, we bring the shadow to the light to unify the aspects of gold lurking in the dark, lost and forgotten. While our American shadow ass is shining to the whole world, I don't know if that's what we're going through or not. Stay tuned.
A friend mentioned that America was founded by RICH, white men who would not let those who did not have the means into "the club." No surprise. That *is* what our country was founded on, we are so much more than that - and that racial divide between the poor was intentional at the time so the "degenerates" (not rich) would not be strong together.
Anyway, trust and faith are the watchwords for today and the rest of this year as we enter the dark, grey time. Don't loose hope, don't loose your fire. I haven't put much stock in the potus one way or the other, I put stock in you. I put stock in the land.
Make something beautiful, remember your strength, talk to your Creator. There is much more going on that just this.

Phoenix Rising

Trying to avoid unhealthy "slash and burn" techniques of my past. Phoenix is stirring in me - re-creating is exhausting work but inevitable for creative people. The unrest in this country and my soul is causing a revolution. Another re-volving; another spiral inward to come back around again to the same wounds to discover new strengths. While I am scared, I'm excited all the same - a breakthrough is coming. Creativity comes from crisis and we are good enough. Face Everything And Rise says Phoenix

Greif Work

Grief work includes a marigold lei and a week off work, I mean it's not *all* bad. The waterworks and anxiety of change aren't comfortable but I have sisters in person supporting me and in Soulodge braving it out with me, virtual support and community is still powerful. I'll take all I can get. Grateful for the work, path and teacher @pixielighthorse and thank you to friends and family for understanding and offering love. No, nothing "happened," just walking the edges of old wounds, tending my scars - emotional and physical - and finding myself again... That's all ;)

Honoring your Ancestors: Altar Building

We are in the heart of Fall Transition, today in particular is a good day to honor our Ancestors. The Mexican tradition of Dia de Los Muertos is a lovely way to connect to and celebrate the lives of those who have gone before us. They are particularly accessible now and creating a special place in your home to remember and "feed" them can help us keep their love and support alive for us as we enter the dark period of the year.

We bring candles, flowers (marigolds especially for ancestors), incense and pictures, sometimes objects of our ancestors and may share a little food on the altar in offering. We "feed" our Ancestors by putting out their favorite objects or foods, by lighting the incense and placing the flowers of marigold which have a particular smell they like. We set these things out for them so they can find their way to us.

The altar is a portal for the Spirits. We set it up sometimes in a particular way to create a stronger connection to our intention. At this time we intend to honor our ancestors, to connect with them and to receive the support and love they are there to offer to help us enter the Winter season and go inward for ourselves.

An Ancestor altar can be very simple or quite elaborate. If this is your first time creating an Ancestor altar, start small - clean a space to place a picture, a candle, flowers if they are available - these simple things are more than enough to create a space for your loved ones.

Intention is the most important part of creating anything, especially in our Spiritual work. If you have no pictures or objects, flowers, or even a candle, a simple stone or natural object may serve as a place holder for these few days. Taking the time to connect by just reflecting on our memories, our hopes in being supported by our Ancestors and perhaps, speaking these things while being with the space is a great practice for honoring your Ancestors.

Just as the altar can become quite elaborate, we can also go into our history through learning about the names and origins of our lineage, the stories those who are still living may share, also by exploring the original culture of our peoples' people and perhaps by simply meditating to receive information.

Keep it simple, especially if you are just beginning, a little bit goes a long way and remember while it's good to look back, don't stare, keep moving forward with your own life ultimately.

Fall Transition: Strengthening of the Heart

The hearts of men are being challenged.
Know this and make a decision.

What does your own heart need, what
is this energy that is sweeping through
now and how does it affect you?

Women can support men in this transformation if men can receive it.
Learn how to support your own heart before you try to offer support to others.
What does "heart support" mean to you?

This fall transition has been very interesting. Typically I experience the shift through the elements; sweeping winds of change and the earth element of drawing down sap for the winter in the trees leaving us with a colorful show of orange, red and yellows. This fall has not been quite so elementally dramatic however quietly dramatic in a different way.

Let me back up, I have been "reading" my own tarot and dreams for well over 15 years and so as I see the signs in life I ask what is the deeper meaning here, and how are these things related? What's the message?

So as I heard of friends, friends of friends, having heart attacks, many resulting in death and all men, I paid attention. After the second and third time of anything, I really start to ask, what's going on here? Coincidence isn't a concept for me, synchronicity is really where I sink my teeth in.
I recently heart the term Kairomancer I finally had a label for what I do and how I live. A kairomancer is someone who lives life by signs of synchronicity. Very helpful as I have been reading not only into card readings and dreams, I live by the signs.

The signs for this fall transition have been heart attacks in men. To me, this is a very clear sign that this heart challenging energy is sweeping through at this time to help us stand up, strengthen our hearts, or transition on.

A couple years ago I recall at this time that two special older men who were Uncles to me passed away a couple weeks apart from each other. It was time. My teachers often comment how special it is to see another "new year" in the Spring, and so I take this Fall transition seriously. When the transition sweeps through, it is with force and compassion for those who aren't meant to journey through another Winter.

So at this time, it may be potent and relevant for you to find some quiet time and ask your own heart, what does it need to be strengthened, what is this energy that is sweeping through now and how does it affect you? How can you "ride" it to sweep out detritus of the past in the heart?

This is also a very relevant time to connect with our ancestors who have gone before us, who want to support us.
Setting up a Day of the Dead Altar to connect with your Ancestors has been a very powerful form of "heart support" for myself this year.

Scars: A Map of a Lifetime

Our bodies carry our life stories in so many ways, on so many levels. I say this all the time as a Yoga teacher and from an esoteric level to a very real, tangible physical level, it's true. Our bodies are temples, they are record-keepers. We all carry emotional and spiritual scar tissue from unresolved hurts and events.

I have a dent in my leg (internal scar tissue) that is approaching it's 10 year anniversary and a new internal scar that is forming in my calf. I am so grateful to know how to take care of this today. I also have scar tissue behind my right knee and probably right hip from tearing the insertions to my hamstring that are coming on 6 years old.

10 years ago I didn't know when I have a trauma, I can scoop up those energetic pieces that scatter in that moment to bring them back in quickly, the pain lessens immensely if I take that moment. 10 years ago I had a limp from the massive bruise inside my leg and was afraid I would have to walk with a cane in my 20's and maybe forever, I didn't know what to do. 10 years ago I didn't know about rolling out tissue, or how to physical work with this area. I was afraid to touch it, I would push too hard and make it hurt more, if something's wrong you just force it really hard to be right, right?

Today I am working with grief. These scars, old and new, are my record book in my body, they remind me of the person I used to be and the person I have become. They hold the energy of that moment and today, I can take action to restore and mend this tough "disorganized tissue." Today I understand fascia on a level and how it is inexorably connected to my mental process, stored in my energy body and expressed in my emotions and physical body. "Your sore shoulder, constipation, sexual pain, infertility–all of these things can be a result of scar tissue in your body. Why hasn’t anyone told you about this possibility before? Mainstream medicine rarely looks at scar tissue because they don’t yet use effective ways for diagnosing and treating scar tissue."

Live from the Pussy & Prosper

Suspend your assumptions for a moment and just follow me here..

Three things caused me to perk up my little cat ears (antennae) and PAY ATTENTION to the
word PUSSY recently. Obviously we are familiar with the cat connotation, as well as others, (it's our word, dammit). Before the tape leaked about #grabherbythepussy I had brunch with a good friend; powerful co-creating woman who is always working with energy, and she shared with me her practice of asking her pussy before taking action.

I have been reading Rainforest Home Remedies since returning from the Jungles of Costa Rica at the beginning of October 2016. Looks like a simple book but the concepts are quite complex. One that leapt out at me from the pages was that a woman's center is her uterus! A woman's creative crescent and portal of life is where we do our best living from. ....
Good to know.
And then... this appeared:

Not once, but several times, perhaps as a response to the #grabherbythepussy statement, or just interesting timing.  And so a call to attention hit me, by the third incident I am all ears. The last signal was that memorable recording that came out from Trump, using the word and causing me to circle back around to review these three concepts and events as a reminder to #livefromthepussy

What are Chakras

Chakras are energy processing centers located all through our bodies. We have 7 (some argue more) major chakras that correspond to different areas along our spine and endocrine system. Chakra means "wheel" in Sanskrit. Each culture has it's own word and way of explaining the energy body, chakra is just the most commonly accepted and widely-used term, from Indian culture. In acupuncture, meridians are created by the connection between hundreds of minor chakras. By affecting one area we can open and clear what may seem to be a completely unrelated area in the body.
We have 7 major chakras starting at the bottom of our spine to the top of our heads. Each area relates to a different aspect of our lives. The Root Chakra is located at the perineum and connects us to the Earth, the Sacral Chakra is located between the hips and connects us to our intimate relationships and creation, the Solar Plexus Chakra is located above the navel and connects us to our relationship to ourselves, the Heart Chakra is located at the center of the chest and connects us to earthly and divine love, the Throat Chakra is located at our throat and connects us to speaking our truth and creating in ephemeral ways, words and song, our Third Eye Chakra is located at the center of our brow and connects us to our own inner visions and dreams, our Crown Chakra is located at the top of our heads and connects us to a higher wisdom and intuition.

Each Chakra has it's own tone and vibration, one of our great tasks here on the Earth is to harmonize all of our chakras for optimal health. It is a constant balancing act. Do not be daunted, the more you practice, the better you will get. Once you are familiar with your own chakras you can start to understand which are out of balance and may need more care. The way we care for our chakras is not only by spending time with them, feeding them, listening to them, but also by setting boundaries with others, cleaning and clearing our space of clutter, eating nutritious foods and doing things that nourish our mind, heart, and soul. As you connect with your chakras you can begin to experience a richer, fuller way of living.

Thank you Ancestors

Ancestors, Grandmother Moon, It is with so much gratitude in my heart that I acknowledge you and thank you for our lineage today and all our days. Thank you for forging before us and allowing us to carry the goodness of you forward and leave behind that which does not serve us or our world today. Thank you, ancestors for your supportive energy. Thank you Grandmother for comforting us; Grandmother Moon, Grandmother Water in our blood and bodies and in our rivers and oceans. Thank you Grandfathers for holding us strong; Fire and Minerals in our bones and bellies and in our stones and heat in our homes. Thank you for wisdom, knowledge, understanding and insight. Thank you for helping us ease the Human Condition, to yield to your bodies in our own bodies. We are One.

One word

"Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards." Soren Kierkegaard

If you were to choose one word to narrow down the theme of your life at this time, what would it be? As cliché perhaps as it is, I would say "transition" is my word right now.

Herbal Medicine

I am so excited to be learning more and more and more each year about herbal medicine and appropriate application. It’s so devastatingly simple I can’t believe it’s not just part of every day life any more. Here is my post from last year - Get well, Stay well Tea - a junior version, I am learning to fermented garlic in honey…. each year the medicine helps me mature..

Facing Fears

F everything and RUN!!
Some serious tub contemplation time is starting this two week hiatus off in a very good way.. Time to reassess, readdress and anoint the moment for a new season on Tuesday.
The roadblocks all boil down to F.E.A.R. Which acronym do you prefer? Face Everything and Rise or F-- Everything and Run? False Evidence Appearing Real is also applicable. Have one I haven't heard?
Asking for the Courage to Change the things I can. 🐚💫

Coping can take many forms. We 'cope' when we are overwhelmed or overcommitted. When we are coping we are compelled to get away from our situation or our feelings by disassociating, We can take the same actions with the intention to be closer to ourselves rather than running away. It just depends on our frame of mind.

How close do you feel to yourself? How can you feel closer?

As a lifestyle, coping will inevitably lead to illness. We cope when we're stressed, when we're trying to do too much. Often our coping mechanisms come from childhood or times we were in situations we felt we had no choice and had to survive. As adults, we always have choices. Today, we can choose to make decisions that will positively affect our situation, making sustainable, small goals, choosing simple boundaries or asking for support from others are some ways we can shift from overwhelm to manageability.

If we have been coping for a long time, it may be helpful to seek counseling to get the time and space to formulate a plan for a sustainable life-shift. We may not be able to see the forest for the trees all on our own.

Asking for help from sources that are able to provide it and being prepared to receive "no" as an answer are good ways to begin lightening your load. Turning over your situation to a divine power can help ease your load, learning who a supportive divine power is for you might be a good place to start.

Pollinators of the Heart and Spirit

Success can mean so many things. What does it mean to you? I think getting through the day in one piece is good success. Buzz words are really starting to get to me, as I own my own business I get bombarded with fabulous opportunities to be a "change maker" and "up my game" and invitations to the latest webinar on client catching and making 6 figures. PULEASE. Make it stop.
Life is SO much more than strategy in selling. Of course, it's important, see last post on "learning business language," but I don't want to feel like a fish looking at bait. Show me your heart in words or images. Then I'm a butterfly and you are my flower. With that, I'm cool.

Pollinators of the heart and spirit unite.

Maintaining Good Energy

When we heal a wound, we recover energy that was directed at coping with that wound. Physically, energetically, emotionally and mentally. When we heal at an energetic level, we touch on all aspects of our bodies. We recover a large amount of energy. What will we do with this "extra" energy that was originally ours to claim? How will we go about living life with a new perspective, what decisions will we make to maintain our better health from this healing work?

We can seek healing help from others, but they can't live life for us. We must stand strong for ourselves and our families by making conscious decisions to use our energy wisely and treat ourselves well. Preparing good food and setting aside time to rest, do nothing, these are just a couple ways we can maintain "good energy."

It may seem counter-intuitive in our culture, to "do nothing." But in that nothing, you are going on "low power mode," recharging your battery for full use. Even our technology can be a reflection of our needs.

Take the time to recharge, re-consider, and re-invent yourself, a retreat once a year, or seasonally or a "mental health day" once a month for You time. Your relationships will be better for it; personal and professional. It may feel like the wrong thing to do, given our list of things that all seem important.

Putting ourselves at the top of that list has a trickle-down effect; we are able to then give from our cup to everything else in our lives that is connected to us. Another way to think about our time is to shift from doing to being. What is your "to be" list?

September Power

Welcome September! It's bear season folks! My birthday is 9-9 and bear is the animal sign I was born under. Also new moon season right now. I recommend salt water for grounding and clearing and simply basic self-care - soak your body or feet.

Virgos shine! I just cleaned up my space (a la Virgo energy) to prepare and connect with my basic allies - amethyst, lavender, cats, and the color purple. Keep it simple!

What are your basic allies? Plants? Stones? Animals?

On Eclipses

The advice from our friend from the Four Corners on Eclipses is "be holy." Stay in and don't do much. It can be a dangerous time and certainly don't look at it.

Every culture has their "way." This is one "way" to take care of yourself. I hope your New Moon eclipse day is fulfilling in whatever you need in a good & gentle way!

Our Favorite Finds

There are so many amazing offerings and people out there teaching and making medicine, we wanted to highlight a few of our favorites of the moment. Please enjoy exploring these teachers, medicines and modalities!
Julia of The Flying Cat

Bloom Post is a medicine woman of the heart, we met in April in Asheville during a beautiful weekend with Aldofo Tito Condori who shared his generational knowledge from the Q'ero of Peru. What an honor! Julia of The Flying Cat

Each essence is created with organic ingredients, blended with mountain spring water and brandy (to keep it fresh).  I gather this living water from a spring a few miles from my home and it comes straight out of the mountain.  These essences are lovingly harvested, bottled, and labeled by hand.  I spend time in ceremony with each of these offerings to empower activation and shamanic blessings, providing you with powerful support for your journey that will work deep within your most subtle layers to heal unconscious shadow energies.

It is time to remember who we truly are.  My intention is to empower you to step fully into your personal power, embrace your beautiful divine self, remember your soul purpose and live your calling. Our natural state is loving, healthy, joyful, radiant, abundant, peaceful and balanced.
These energies are alive and you have the power to tap into a deep wealth of healing, guidance and support when working with these offerings.  Please know that each essence is shared with you from my heart.  May they be of the utmost empowerment for your heart and your journey.

I have been a grateful member of the Soulodge Womens' Community for a couple years now, so glad I found it when I did. I plan to continue to learn from Pixie with Earth Medicine School in 2017! I hope you take advantage of this very last Soulodge offering from Pixie. Julia of The Flying Cat
